All the decorations made their appearance a little on the early side this year. Mike couldn't find the tree lights so he pulled everything out of the shed looking for them. It's hard to tell a four year old who hasn't seen her sparkly pink tree in a year that now that it's out of storage we have to put it away again. That just won't fly. We had to replace the lights on her tree because they were stored with the batteries still in, but Dad found her a sting of purple only mini lights. Pretty snazzy.
After her tree was decorated I dug out the pieces to her Christmas village and we set them up next to it. She built that sleigh at a Lowes workshop last year. Did you notice the my little ponies pulling the sleigh? So Riley! Isaac put up a his little green tree and his multicolored lights were still working. I even found him a green tree skirt that I decorated with gold glitter snow flakes.
We got in the mood with Christmas music and some festive head gear. Most of the inside stuff has a set spot so my job was pretty easy.
Mike put up my winter pond scene with a little help from Riley. All our friends returned even my peacock. Although, the tail lights er...lights on the tail feathers gave us trouble for a few days. I observed a handful of times how much more I was seeing that peacock sell for (more than double what I paid). I started joking that maybe I got a deal because ours was for one time use. In the end Mike got it straightened out. Our mom and baby deer were joined by an animated daddy deer. He drinks from the pond. We had to expand the pond this year actually. Our collection of animals grew I suppose.

This weekend Mike was up to eyeballs in yard work and what I hope is the final dryer repair. I decided it was craft time. Nobody escaped this time, mwah ha ha! Anyway, I just pulled out my Halloween craft supplies and grabbed some paper, plates and a toilet paper tube. I just winged it with Roo, but I set Isaac to work on this guy.
Pumpkin Plate
I said this last year when Riley and I made spider webs, but I can't get over how much she's grown up in a year! She painted her pumpkin all by herself. I alternated projects while paint dried in between steps and she hung in there. I helped cut the face out, but she glued and arranged it on her own. It came out cute, don't you think?
Ghost Feet
When I hung up one of her footprint ghost pictures from last year Riley insisted we do a new one. I painted her foot with white washable paint and had her step down on black paper. One footprint came out wonky so we decided it was a big bone. I gave her googly eyes to glue on. She drew a smile on the ghost and the bone and added Halloween stickers.
Frankenstein Toilet Paper Tube
I let her paint half the tube green and then helped her glue a strip of black for the hair. Once it was all dry she drew a very happy face and stitches.
Paper Skeleton
He used the template I linked to above, but I didn't have the right kind of plates so I gave him white card stock. He traced his own hands and feet. Check out how big his feet are?!? Then I had him trace the outline of a plate on each piece of card stock so that he could match the images easier. I think he did an amazing job drawing and cutting them out. Once he had all the bones I gave him my Crop-a-dile and a quick lesson in it's use. Then we discovered we didn't have any black pipe cleaners so he chose yellow. Did you notice he drew spiderwebs in his eyes?
I didn't do anywhere nearly as much DIY and crafting for this party as I did for her last one, but I kept myself busy. I had Mike draw Pinkie Pie on a piece of poster board and then I traced her in Sharpie and painted to make "Pin the Tail on Pinkie Pie". I made some sequin ribbon barrettes for the girls which came out pretty cute. I used the left over barrettes from the Minnie invitations and hot glued pink, purple and green blue sequins on them. Next, I just cut pink, blue and purple ribbon of the same length knotted them together and glued them to the non-opening end of the barrette. Mike and I also collaborated on some custom candy bar wrappers for our favors. We designed them with some deviant art vectors and paint shop and had them printed on glossy paper at Kinkos. I made some chalk board signs for decorating the table and next to the bouncy castle.
