Happy 4th!

I decided I needed more decorations so I made this for my door. It looks easier than it was (or at least less time consuming). I did mine a little differently because it was a last minute thing.

Materials
  • Paper Place (or 10in cardboard circle)
  • 4 (5- by 6-inch) pieces each of red, white, and blue construction paper (or card stock)
  • Double Sided tape
  • Red, White, and Blue ribbon
  • Stars colored by kids (instead of the foil covered star)

I rolled my paper into cones. In hindsight Riley's play dough rolling pin would have made that go faster. I attempted to stick the cone together with a glue stick, but they're correct double sided tape works much better. Then I alternated them and stuck them to the plate. Mine weren't exactly uniform so where there were gaps I put red, white and blue ribbon. Then I stuck three small stars that Riley colored in the center. I liked it a lot better on the table than the door, but what can you do?

Here are the other decorations. My favorites were super simple. I printed star coloring pages and gave them to Riley. Then I cut them out and taped red, white and blue ribbon to the back. Super cute. Aside from that I did streamers here and there.

My ribbon wands were a big hit too. I had my own private parade in the backyard.

It was a great day. A yard full of happy kids, yummy food and fireworks. Even Miss Leeloo behaved herself. We had prepared her by playing fireworks videos at full volume the day before while giving her treats and praise. Apparently it worked. She laid next to me calmly watching and then went inside and laid down until it was over.
