Halloween Prep Begins

I know it's early, but Halloween's a big deal for Mike and I. I have made it a habit to start thinking about the kids' costumes in August to avoid having to settle for something. Recently, I broached the subject of Halloween with Miss Roo. She's obsessed with the holiday and was all too happy to consider it's return. In my head I was running down the list of what we already had: Rainbow Brite, Minnie Mouse, Fairy Wings & Tutus, Cat ears, Princess dresses, etc.

So, Riley do you want to be Rainbow Brite again?
No. (of course not) What will you be Mommy?
Um...Maybe I'll be Alice. I already have an Alice dress. Oh! You could be the Cheshire Cat. With your pink kitty ears.
(I am doing the happy dance in my head. How cute will we be tick or treating together? All things we already have, woohoo!)
Yeah...No Mommy.
No what?

I be Alice and you be treasure cat!
(of course! Me and my big mouth.)

At which point she went on and on excitedly about being Alice for Halloween the rest of the way home and then burst through the door and started playing Trick-or-Treat. Sigh. So, I started looking and found that adorable Alice costume pictured above. It was sweet, accurate to the movie, budget friendly and offered in her size. I showed Mike and he approved. I even showed Riley and she was thrilled. For some reason I didn't order it right then. I waited.

When I clicked the bookmark today to order it...Tragedy. OUT OF STOCK! Oh, dear. Mike and I searched for one we liked as much and struck out. So many cheap looking shiny satin dresses in a ridiculously vibrant blue, pass. Some nice ones she could actually wear as a dress, but for way more than anyone should spend on a toddler's clothing let alone Halloween costume. Buggar!

I decided to scope out a t-shirt with the appropriate stripes to wear with the cat ears and struck out as well. I found adult size full costumes and kid sized t-shirts and leotards. Bah. I don't even want to be Cheshire Cat. Anyway, at this point Mike is proposing he can make her an Alice dress as it's a similar pattern to the first birthday dress he made. I'm gonna keep looking since there's time though.

I have a feeling Mike will have a full plate with Isaac's costume request. He wants to be a digital man. As in a normal guy with some sort of display window revealing his mechanical inner workings. Sounds a bit more complicated than the ghost buster proton pack we made....

Under construction. Halloween 2008

He ain't afraid of no ghost!
